Old Town

Old Town has numerous Romanesque, Gothic, Renaissance, Baroque, neo-classical windows, balconies, portals. stairs ... the streets are narrow, a wonderful home close to one another. Climbing the old city comes to a church Sv.Eufemije. Erupted in the former pagan temple in ancient Rome dedicated to Istria and Fortune. Zlatni rt is a forest park near the coast, near the city. There is also climbing, which offers wonderful views of the Red Island. The oldest is a protected object of Istria, the high aesthetic and botanical values.

Palud is an ornithological reserve just 10 km from Rovinj. There is a swamp with an interesting flora and vegetation. The most important is the richness of the bird world.

Two Sisters island is an island that contains the largest nesting gulls on the Rovinj area. On the island of Sv. Andrew or Red Island in the early Middle Ages there was a Benedictine monastery, later it turned into a Dalmatian Franciscan Franciscan monastery. Today, the monastery premises converted into a palace, and the island became a tourist complex. Significant is the mausoleum of Baron Hutterott on the neighboring island of Maskin, who is connected with the island of St. Andrew footpath. Sv.Katarina is an island that is considered the first settlements in the area of Rovinj. Archaeological finds are going back to the Bronze Age. Historically Sv.Katarina was the residence of various ranks of priests. How to get to Rovinj

In Rovinj is possible to arrive by boat, bus, car and transfer.

With boat in Rovinj you can get from Venice and from various towns in Istria if is available a boat excursion.

By bus you can arrive in Rovinj from all major Croatian cities and abroad.

Arriving by car is fastest tought the “Istarski Ipsilon”. If you decide to ride the local roads it can be a real adventure because Istria has a beautiful medieval towns for sightseeing.

If you decide to transport by plane you could land to Pula, but from Pula to Rovinj you have to take a taxi or bus.

By train it is possible to get into Kanfanara which is from Rovinj remote about 20 km.

ROVINJ: is a town on the western coast of Istria with Mediterranean climate. In Rovinj Archipelago there are 22 islands and islets of which are Andrew and Sv.Katarina the greatest.

It is believed that Rovinj emerged in the period from 3 - 5 century, it is mentioned first as Castum Rubini. It is assumed that in the location of today's town center was an older settlement. Among the inhabitants of Rovinj its circulating the leagend that there was original city on one of the islands - Cissa, this name is mentioned in the work of Pliny the Elder. Legend tells that the island sank in the middle of an earthquake, so the legend is named "Istrian Atlantis.

Rovinj was originally an island. At the time of Venice it was made a wooden bridge and a wall with 3 towers. Central tower was the entrance to the city. Wooden bridge in 1443 was replaced by a stone. As the city grew,it also grew the need to expand to the mainland, so it is covered passage to the mainland in the 17th century, which old town core turns into a peninsula. In 1813th Austria is coming to power and then begins constant growth in Rovinj. Appears factories, progress in shipbuilding and various institutions. After the second World War Rovinj are increasingly turning to tourism and it is been awarded numerous awards, which confirm many of the guests who return year after year to vacation in Rovinj.
